Planning for project success with Expert Woodworking

Time
Allow enough time for planning and for doing your own research.

    Cut pictures from magazines.

Prepare drawings or have an architect or designer prepare drawings.

Drawings need not be 100% accurate, in fact, simple sketches with basic dimensions may be enough. The drawings, along with magazine photographs, should be enough information to begin getting an idea of the cost of the project.

Bidding

    Don’t just get several bids.

First, determine the level of quality an detailing you want for your project.

Next obtain references for shops to visit. Contact a few shops, discuss your project and look at the shops’ work.

Decide if you want the shop to price your project. Give each shop the same bidding information so you get a like-for-like comparison.

At Expert Woodworking, we build to a very high level of architectural detailing; high quality cabinetry that will last and last.

    It is your choice.

Quality

        Expert Woodworking’s motto is:

    Quality materials and construction.

Tasteful design and attention to detail.

    Long lasting quality.

Cabinetry must perform a difficult task. Doors and drawers must open and close smoothly year after year. They must stand-up to daily abuse and exposure to household chemicals, water, sunlight, heat, etc. Cabinets are sometimes made with hundreds of pieces of wood cut to close tolerances with tight fitting joints and hardware fittings.

Cabinetry can show-off the natural beauty of woods, and can lend themselves to the highest level of architectural detail including all of the subtle design and visual proportions that can make a great project. Your cabinetry can be a source of function and joy.

Any lower quality shop can deliver a job that looks OK at first. But, after a few months, signs of wear and tear can start to appear. The finish can show damage. The doors can lose their adjustment. Drawers can get rough feeling or even break apart.

If you are considering selling you house in a few years after a remodel, it is at the time of the sale when you want the job to look at its best. You don’t want your cabinetry and other features to show wear and tear.

If you buy cheap cabinets and they start to fail, it usually means a complete remodel because the flooring and counter tops must also be replaced.
